The Development Services Department has, as its
 mission, to maintain the City's physical environment 
 through the effective and efficient use of the City's
 legislative mandates (i.e. maintaining the General
 Plan, zoning, building, and property maintenance
 codes), which provide a solid foundation for an
 excellent quality of life for the residents of 
 Monterey Park. This Department is also responsible
 for providing services that promote the community's   short and long term development interests in maintaining Monterey Park's traditionally high standards of development in residential, commercial, and industrial areas, as well as providing staff assistance to the Planning Commission, Design Review Board, Modification Committee, and City Council.

 The Department consists of three Divisions:
